New Golden Dustpan Winner!

Doug and Shannon are the most recent winners of the Golden Dustpan!  Doug and Shannon are longtime Block Captains on lower Victor Street.  They recently proposed and hosted a first for Block Captains - a midweek cleanup party.  WOW!  This  informal get-together was well-attended, made a big difference in the neighborhood, and a fun time was had by all afterwards.  Doug and Shannon reminded us that being a Block Captain is all about having fun - and Clifton Heights is a better place to live thanks to all their efforts.

Honeysuckle

From Daniel and the February Burnett Woods cleanup:

Honeysuckle is a real plague plant....  we learned today that if it was let go in Burnett Woods, it would eventually crown out the trees!  The strategy to eliminate honeysuckle is to cut it off near the ground and spray the fresh stump with Roundup.  Though we had a mulcher for some of the clean up, we learned that the best way to clean up was to cut the clippings into 2 to 3 foot lengths leave it in the woods as a "carpet" to form an ecosystem on the woods floor.

OK, this isn't new news - but we're still very proud of it!  At the 2007 Awards Banquet for Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, our Bellevue Park project was awarded 2nd place in the Small Projects category.  And our co-founder and very own Suzanne S. was honored with a Five Star Volunteer Award.  Thanks Suzanne for all you do for our community!
