Honeysuckle
From
Daniel and the February Burnett Woods cleanup:
Honeysuckle is a real
plague plant.... we learned today that if it was let go
in Burnett Woods, it would eventually crown out
the trees! The strategy to eliminate honeysuckle is to
cut it off near the ground and spray the fresh stump
with Roundup. Though we had a mulcher for some of the
clean up, we learned that the best way to clean
up was to cut the clippings into 2 to 3 foot lengths
leave it in the woods as a "carpet" to form an ecosystem
on the woods floor.
WE WON !!

New
Golden Dustpan Winner!
|
|
 |

Beth
is the most recent winner of the Golden Dustpan -
she sets an example of diligence on not one, not
two, but three blocks - Volkert, Cassatt, and Upper
Flora. With the UC Center for Community
Engagement, Beth organized the "Into the Streets"
event in October 2007, a fantastic cooperative
success between UC, CHIA, CUF, and the CUF Area
Block Captains. Beth is also a tireless
promoter of the Block Captain Program - to all who
will listen! The CUF area is a better place to
live thanks to all Beth's efforts.
THANK
YOU BETH !!
